Montgomery council sponsors resolution favoring D.C. statehood

The Montgomery County Council has introduced a resolution supporting a bill in Congress that would give make the District of Columbia the 51st state. The county’s ceremonial resolution comes as the U.S. House of Representatives considers a bill that would grant D.C. statehood. On Tuesday, the House Oversight Committee on Oversight and Reform passed the measure, and it will go to the full house for a vote. D.C. is represented in the House by a non-voting delegate. The statehood bill in Congress would give the District full representation in the House, as well as two senators. (Bethesda)
